Tell us about yourself:
Growing up in a staunch Christian home, under the tutelage of his father who was a clergyman, Jokotoye Oreoluwa Bigvai first embraced the noble art of acting when he joined the church drama group at the tender age of six in CAC Church, Erin-Ile in Kwara State, Nigeria.
Music later came knocking at the door of the young Oreoluwa, after he picked up interest in musical instruments, particularly the guitar. Bigvai continued to quietly nurture his passion for the arts until he joined a four-man musical group called, ‘The Classics.’
After his admission into the University of Ado-Ekiti, tragedy struck. Pastor J.A Jokotoye died. His father, backbone and role model was gone. Going ahead with his tertiary education without a sponsor was purely impossible; so he found solace in acting. He took his destiny in his own as he reignited his determination to succeed as an actor.
The outstanding acting skills of Jokotoye Oreoluwa Bigvai was spotted by Pa Ojo Ojojolu during the audition for an epic movie, ‘Oranmiyan’ in Ado-Ekiti and that consequently landed him his first-ever acting role as ‘Oba Alayemole’ in the year 2002.
The break he longed for all his life finally came, and ever since that point, he never looked back. It has been movie upon movie for the talented handsome and lanky actor, who soon became a household name through his numerous roles in various movie productions. ‘Iku Doro’ produced by Toyin Aimakhu, ‘Grace’ produced by Yemi Amodu, ‘Kuru Kuru’, ‘Faworaja’ were a few of the movies he featured in. He later grabbed roles in ‘Super Story’ and ‘Tinsel’ which topped on prime time TV in Nigeria, and indeed Africa.
In his rise to fame, Mr Jokotoye Oreoluwa Bigvai remains indebted to Pa Ojojolu, Mr Adebayo Salami (Oga Bello), Yemi Amodu, Late Bisi Ogunde, Lanre Omiyimika (Baba Ijesa) just to mention of a few of those who groomed and supported him from the cradle of his acting career.
Indeed, the brilliant value Bigvai has added to what is known and called Nollywood today has not gone unrecognized, particularly in the Yoruba genre.
He won the Best Supporting Actor (Yoruba) at the prestigious City People Awards in 2014, then went ahead to win the Best Actor of the Year awards which he received at the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria. He was also honored in Dallas, Texas, USA in 2017.
Jokotoye Oreoluwa Bigvai through his production company, J Plus Media, has discovered, mentored and given many up-coming actors the platform to feature in his productions, including the latest one, ‘Mr Roland’ which was shot in Indiana, USA. His next big plan is to act in Hollywood movies as he continues to mould himself into actor of international repute.
Bigvai who is married to Adetokunbo Jokotoye and blessed with a lovely girl enjoys soccer and nature.
