FRESNO STATE and LOCAL FILM NONPROFITS HOST “INDIE” FILM SEMINAR
(Fresno, CA) --- Ever wanted to get the inside scoop on how independent films are made? Noted filmmakers Kelley Baker and Jon Gann will speak at the Lyles Center Auditorium—in the Student Rec Center, west of the Save Mart Center—on the Fresno State campus on Thursday, November 4th at 7:00 p.m. as part of The Angry Filmmaker Survival Guide Tour. The lecture, which is open to the public, is being co-sponsored by Fresno State’s Mass Communication and Journalism Department, which houses the university’s film program, along with the Fresno Filmmakers Alliance and the Fresno Film Commission.
Baker is the author of "The Angry Filmmaker Survival Guide: Making the Extreme No Budget Film," and has written, directed, and produced three full-length feature films. For the past five years he has lectured on low budget independent production in more than 200 cities. Gann is an award winning filmmaker and founder of the DC Film Alliance, a non-profit group supporting Washington, DC’s film and video community, and creator of the wildly successful DC Shorts Film Festival.
Fresno State MCJ professor, Don Priest, promises that the lecture will be informative and entertaining to both filmmakers and the movie-going public in general, “I heard Kelley speak at a media arts conference in Chicago and it was great. I just knew we had to bring him to Fresno."
Fresno Film Commissioner Ray Arthur sees the potential of the event as long term, “Kelley and Jon will offer local filmmakers and film students new insight into the real world of making movies in a competitive setting and do it in an entertaining way. This isn’t your grandfather’s college lecture! The more tools these filmmakers have, the better it is for future productions in Fresno and the Central Valley.”
Tickets for the event are only $10 and are available for purchase online at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/133036.

KELLEY BAKER
Kelley Baker, aka the Angry Filmmaker, has written, directed, and
produced (and is self-distributing) three full-length feature
films. In an earlier life, he was the sound designer on many of Gus
Van Sant’s films (Good Will Hunting, Finding Forrester, among
others). He produced and directed eight award-winning short,
personal films and documentaries, which have screened in festivals
and broadcast outlets worldwide. A Portland native with a BA and an
MFA in Film Production from USC, Baker has spent the last five
years traveling around the US and UK lecturing on low budget
independent production in more than 200 cities and 350 college and
media arts venues. His new book is "The Angry Filmmaker Survival
Guide: Making the Extreme No Budget Film."
JON GANN
Jon Gann is the founder of the DC Film Alliance, a non-profit group
supporting Washington, DC’s film and video community, and the
creator of the DC Shorts Film Festival; now in its seventh year,
which attracts national and international filmmakers and has become
one of the country’s premier short film festivals. Jon’s new
venture, Reel Plan, consults with filmmakers on the festival
circuit. His “festival tips” blog is read by hundreds of filmmakers
every week, and through his work, has bridged the communication gap
between competing film festivals, so all can share film
information, sponsor strategies and filmmaker data.
